FAQ

1. How do I sign my pup up for Playcare?

  • Please either email us or call us to set up a 2-hour evaluation for your pup. After their evaluation, you will be able to schedule daycare and boarding by emailing or calling.

2.What vaccinations do you require?

  • We require Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella.

3.Can my dog still get Kennel Cough with their Bordetella vaccination?

  • Unfortunately, yes. Kennel Cough has many different strains, and much like the flu vaccine for humans, the Bordetella vaccination only covers certain strains.

4.So, why do I need the vaccination if my dog can still catch it?

  • The hope is that if your dog does happen to catch Kennel Cough, the vaccination will make their symptoms less severe and prevent death.

5.What happens during their evaluation?

  • First, we will meet your pup in our lobby and go over paperwork/vaccinations. After that, if you would like a tour (please tell us ahead of time, when you make the evaluation date/time), we will take you and your pup on a tour of our facility! As the tour finishes, you will hand over the leash to us and you are free to leave for 2 hours. We will then take your pup back into the playroom and start introducing them to the group one by one – this way your pup has a chance to meet and sniff all the other dogs individually without getting overwhelmed. We will be observing their body language, behavior, and reactions towards the other pups during this time. When you pick them up, you will receive a verbal report from us telling you how they did during their evaluation!

6.Why would my dog NOT pass their evaluation?

  • For daycare, we do not accept dogs that show any signs of aggression towards other dogs. We also do not accept dogs who excessively hump. We are very strict with the dogs we accept into our daycare pack. If we do not initially see these things during their evaluation, but they start to show any of these things afterwards, they will be kicked out of our daycare.
  • Other reasons may include but not limited to;
    • Reactivity
    • Play behavior (including but not limited to, rough play & inability to self-regulate)
    • Nipping employees or other dogs
    • Excessive barking that does not stop
    • Consistent barking at or in other dogs faces & not being able to read other dogs social cues
    • Destruction of property
    • Resource guarding
    • High stress level/signs

7.What should I bring when boarding my dog with you?

  • All of our boarding options come with a bed & blanket, however, if you’d like to bring their own bedding, please feel free to! You may also bring whatever you’d like them to have in their boarding area, including toys and chews. We have plenty of food/water bowls, so you can leave those at home!

8.Can my female dog come to daycare/boarding when they are in heat?

  • Unfortunately, no. Please keep your female dog home if they are in their heat cycle. It can take multiple weeks for them to be able to return to daycare.

9.Does my male dog need to be neutered?

  • All male dogs over 1 year old must be neutered to attend daycare/boarding. We understand that veterinarians are advising male puppies to remain intact until they are at least a year old, however, please be aware that when they hit their maturity stage, this is when the excessive humping may start, and your puppy may not be able to attend daycare once this begins. We will give them another evaluation after they are neutered if this was to occur!

10.I have an older dog that has never been to daycare before, is this a good fit?

  • We have found that older dogs that have never been to daycare before, typically do not like it. The daycare environment can be a lot for some dogs to handle, especially if they were not socialized in similar environments as a young puppy. We give every dog a chance, but please keep this in mind!

11. Can my dog be separated from the daycare group for boarding?

  • We do accept dogs for boarding that are not included in our daycare program, however, this is on a case-to-case basis. Your dog still CANNOT be aggressive towards other dogs. However, if they are shy/uncomfortable around other dogs, we might be able to help. To be separated from the daycare, your dog must not excessively bark when alone and also must not be destructive. They MUST like people and show no aggression towards people. Our separated guests get indoor and outside time throughout the day. If you think your dog will be extremely stressed being separated, we recommend talking to your veterinarian about medication for them to have just while they are boarding.

12. I’m from out of state and cannot come for a prior evaluation, can you make this work?

  • This is on a case-to-case basis. We may be able to accommodate your dog, however, they would still have to have their evaluation when they do arrive, and if they do not pass, they will be separated from the group until picked up. Just because your dog goes to daycare where you are from, does NOT mean your dog will pass our evaluation. We are VERY strict on the dogs we accept and their behavior. Our price for non-regulars is $50/day per dog for daycare. Best to email us if you are an out-of-state customer.

13. Do you have breed restrictions?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate the following;
    • Dogs under 10lbs (cannot be with the daycare group. Could be boarded, but separate)
    • Dogs over 90lbs
    • Giant breeds, including but not limited to: Great Dane, Newfoundland, Cane Corso, English Mastiff, Leonberger, Doberman, St. Bernard, Irish Wolfhound, Tibetan Mastiff, Bullmastiff, Rottweiler, Great Pyrenees, Akita

We also recommend any dogs that have serious health issues to seek boarding at a veterinary facility.
